My dear and amazing friend, Claire Roberts, over at August Anthology has started up one of the most meaningful businesses I’ve ever had the blessing to work with.
Let me tell you ;-)
A couple months back my Granny and Papa agreed to let me interview them about their entire life, and then August Anthology transcribed their stories into a beautiful book which is also filled with stunning photos. In the book, there are separate sections that tell about different times in their lives. What is so beautiful about this concept, is that the book is a present to the relatives and friends that are reading it and also it’s a present to the interviewee — to be able to see all your memories, stories, good times and bad, lessons learned, funny moments, moments that made you cry…..preserved.
I asked Claire a few questions about this process and what it looks like. And also, how did she come to create such a meaningful and beautiful business :D. Below is the interview.
If you are looking to give an amazing present to your loved ones, seriously consider August Anthology.
Claire made this process completely seamless. In my case, I interviewed my grandparents, but often she is the interviewer. How amazing is she???? :) Thank you so much Claire. My entire family loves this gift you’ve shared and will always treasure it “
What is your company all about?
August Anthology is about bringing beauty and inspiration to families by helping them hold onto the life stories of those they love. It’s about strengthening and building up families across generations.
How did your company start?
My grandfather was a man who lived through some incredible life circumstances. His mother and father split when he was very young, and to make matters even worse, his mother passed away when he was six years old. He and his two sisters where then raised in an orphanage until he joined the military at the age of 18. He was a tailgunner in WWII and survived against all odds. He and my grandmother faced challenges when starting their family, so they adopted their firstborn only to conceive their next shortly thereafter. They lived through the joy of raising six amazing children and the sorrow of burying a son. No matter what came his way, he faced it with an unwaivering faith. He was an inspiration to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many more.
Even though I always listened when he shared his stories while I was growing up, I never took the opportunity to record him telling them firsthand before he passed away. To be able to hear his voice, or read his own words now – and share them with my children – is something I long to have.
I started August Anthology in the hopes of providing encouragement and inspiration to families, as they honor and treasure those they love and the stories they have lived out.
What does the process look like if someone wanted to order an album?
If someone is interested in an Album, they are welcome to visit the website to check out more – and email me at Info@AugustAnthology.com.
Who is your main clientele? Or who most benefit from a delightful album like this?
Those who tend to be most interested in an August Anthology Album are people who enjoy their family’s background, and who want to have a keepsake to hold onto and be able to turn back to for years to come. Parents who are now raising families of their own really have a genuine interest in passing down the stories from their grandparents’ generation to their children.
What different albums/packages do you offer?
The Basic Package is $299 and covers all interview and transcription fees, and includes one Album. Additional Albums are available for $145 each, and copies of the digital audio file of the Interview are available for $75 each. I offer discounts for those who are “followers” on the Featured Stories page at AugustAnthology.com, who “like” August Anthology’s Facebook page, or who order five or more Albums.
What’s your website? Contact info?
